Margert Community Corporation is a New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) Neighborhood Preservation Company, and a HUD approved housing counseling agency, providing comprehensive assistance to persons who want to rent, buy or already own a home, and who seek to be responsible renters, buyers and owners.

We are the nonprofit housing agency of the Rockaways, serving the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island.

Margert serves as the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) service provider for south Queens.

Margert is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that has been providing neighborhood preservation services, housing assistance, and housing counseling to low-income tenants and homeowners, the elderly, and persons with disabilities since 1980.

We are a founding member of the Association of Energy Affordability (AEA), a nonprofit training, research and technical services organization that is committed to the principle of using energy efficiency to maintain affordable and healthy housing for low and moderate income families and communities.

LIFE, the Low-Income Forum on Energy, is a unique statewide dialogue. The goal is to connect people and programs to solve the energy-related issues challenging low-income New Yorkers.

Margert is a member of the New York Mortgage Coalition, a nonprofit organization administered by the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development, Inc. (ANHD) that helps low and moderate income residents of New York City, Long Island and Westchester County to become homeowners.

  


Margert is a HPD approved housing counseling agency.

Many New Yorkers want to buy a home but don't have enough money saved for their down payment and closing costs. As part of Mayor Bloomberg's "New Housing Marketplace Plan," the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) created the HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance program.

 


First time homebuyer down payment assistance may also be available from the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) through Margert's First HOME program.

 

HEAP is a federally funded program that assists eligible households with grants to pay their energy heating costs.

Project Warmth helps needy families on Long Island and the Rockaway peninsula get back on track with their utility payments.
